What's New 7-1-22
Loma VistaThis immersive and compulsively replayable new full-length cements Sophie Allison’s status as one of the most gifted songwriters making rock music right now. The album finds Sophie broadening the borders of her aesthetic without abandoning the unsparing lyricism and addictive melodies that made earlier songs so easy to obsess over. To support her vision Sophie enlisted producer Daniel Lopatin, whose recent credits include the Uncut Gems movie score and The Weeknd’s Dawn FM.
AntiRobin Pecknold describes the set as “me by myself on the longest night of the year... honoring the loneliness of 2020 with a nylon string and some songs new and old.” Selections cover all four of the band’s studio albums, while also featuring a cover of Nina Simone’s “In The Morning” and a rearrangement of the traditional “Silver Dagger.”
Sub PopFrom the Brazilian standards that her family listened to while driving to the beach, to the European folk traditions she tapped into on her own, and the pursuits that interest her today – studies in archaeology, work as a gardener, and walking the world’s great trails – Naima’s music draws from family, the earth and music handed down through generations.
AtlanticFeaturing Shinedown’s explosive yet artfully crafted sound and urgent lyrics, Planet Zero rings the alarm on a dystopian warning of the dangerous consequences to come when it all goes too far, and we begin to lose our respect for those with differing opinions and our compassion for one another.
Sub PopMy Other People presents TV Priest as a renewed and refined version of themselves. A band on a journey to express a more honesty while still remaining true to their post-punk roots. Giving 13 tracks of compassion, integrity and courage, TV Priest assert themselves as a band that not only wear their hearts on their sleeves, but also as a musical format for us all to enjoy.
Sub PopΣtella makes her Sub Pop debut with the mesmerizing Up and Away, an old-school pop paean to the pangs and raptures of love. From the Greek folk-inflected get-go, we're swept up in Σtella's world - and it's quite the captivating place to be. The singer-songwriter joins forces with artist and producer Tom Calvert (aka Redinho) – a match made in Athens.
Compass RecordsNicki Bluhm, the native San Franciscan who now calls Tennessee home, possesses a gorgeously emotive voice and her clear-eyed perspective on life informs the 10 tracks on Avondale Drive. Red House RecordsThere’s a sense of optimistic yearning here, from the dreamy opener "Wonderment," to her ode to a broken heart, "Curiosity," to the pulsing promise of "Hope. " With the exception of "Golden," a searing indictment of white complacency, Sing To The Walls is ultimately about hope, connection, and love; the sweetness of life, even amidst a painful time.

Patty Griffin
Tape
PGMBuy Now "These songs have a feel you can only get when you're by yourself at three o'clock in the morning," says Patty. "To listen to the bulk of these recordings, you do have to let go of the idea of good sound quality and just listen to the performance. I feel better getting some true rarities out there for people to listen to...not compiled by a computer algorithm." Coheed and Cambria
