Vinyl LP pressing. 2020 release, the third album from the Los Angeles-based instrumental supergroup. Recorded by legendary engineer Jim Scott (Wilco, Rolling Stones, Tom Petty) at his studio in Valencia, CA, this new collection began with... a drum machine. The Sequential Circuits Drumtraks from 1983, to be specific. The Circles band members-guitarist Neal Casal (Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Ryan Adams), bassist Dan Horne (Cass McCombs, Jonathan Wilson), keyboardist Adam MacDougall (Black Crowes) and drummer Mark Levy-were searching for a sound, something more upbeat than previous releases. Cue the Drumtraks. The seven-track collection marks a stylistic shift from their previous LPs. It's an evolution that sees the band embracing a sleeker, shinier, even dancier version of themselves - a cosmic disco of the body and the soul, still anchored in the groove, but ascending to the stars.
10 Times GRAMMY Award winning artist CHAKA KHAN returns home to Chicago’s Harris Theatre to perform a selection of her greatest hits in front of an enthusiastic hometown audience. HOMECOMING features CHAKA KHAN and her 12-piece band performing hit songs from the span of her entire career.

Joywave has announced new album, Possession. Produced by frontman Daniel Armbruster, mixed by Dan Grech-Marguerat. The title is a reference to the loss of control. The 12 tracks speak to the noise surrounding us. "Our heads are spinning," notes Armbruster. "Every screen we walk by is shouting at us, demanding our undivided attention. Control over our own lives is constantly under siege." These themes are explored at societal and personal levels, encouraging listeners to see the big picture.

Vinyl LP pressing. 2020 release. A deeply personal album for bandleader Rob Grote - all of the songs were written in his bedroom as a means of coping with struggles he was facing at the time with no intention of them putting them on a record. He wound up with 32 songs during that writing session, of which he and the band chose the 11 featured on the new record. The new album was produced by the band and frequent collaborator Keith Abrams, and mixed by Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, Spoon, MGMT, Tame Impala).
Vinyl LP pressing. 2020 release. Early James, an Alabama native and signing to Dan Auerbach's Easy Eye Sound roster, releases his debut album, Singing for My Supper. The album spans hard-charging blues, wistful folk, and ages-old pop crooning, anchored by the singer's voice that oscillates from gravel-gruff shout to a honey-smooth whisper. James' inspirations run from Fiona Apple and Tom Waits to the Southern gothic poets, as heard in the album's darker themes and in the wry humor with which he writes about them. Early James' debut features ten wide-ranging songs, co-produced by Auerbach and David "Fergie" Ferguson, is full of world-weary wisdom. "Blue Pill Blues" details a period when James, who was being treated for depression, quit his antipsychotic medication cold turkey. "High Horse" is a lament of the ways his adolescent excitement faded with the arrival of the vices of adulthood, while "Easter Eggs" finds the songwriter coming to terms with some of the darker sides of his heredity.
Sad Happy is Circa Waves' exciting follow up to their UK Top 10 album What's It Like Over There?. Frontman and lyricist Kieran Shudall describes the idea behind the duality of the Sad Happy album idea: "We live in a world of two extreme halves. One minute a news story about catastrophe and the end of the world... in the same swipe up, a monkey riding a bike and another nonsensical funny video. It's this close proximity of immense sadness and unbridled joy I find so jarring, bizarre and fascinating. Our brains seesaw through emotions at such a rate that happiness and sadness no longer feel mutually exclusive. This maniacal 'Sad Happy' mind-maze forms the basis and underpinning to this album. Sad Happy was written in my Liverpool home. It's also hugely inspired by my surroundings and the love I have for the city. It runs through thoughts on mortality, love and observations of people."
Sass Jordan is one of the premiere female rock singers in history, selling over one million albums worldwide. While she has touched upon Blues over her 40-year career, this is the first time she has focused exclusively on creating an album of songs in this tradition, that showcase her talent as a Blues singer. As Jordan acknowledges: ''The blues has always been a huge part of my life. It's a big part of what I grew up with. It's been there through my entire career.''
Her first blues album arrives in raw, earthy style on the magnificent Rebel Moon Blues, to be released on Friday, March 13 on Stony Plain Records. Co-produced with D#, it's the Juno Award-winner's ninth studio album and first release in nearly a decade. More crucially, it's also a watershed that charts a new course in Jordan's musical voyage while tracing her love of the blues back to its source. The album features eight songs, freshly interpreted and given the Sass Jordan treatment with her band the Champagne Hookers: guitarists Chris Caddell and Jimmy Reid, bassist Derrick Brady and drummer Cassius Pereira, augmented by blues harp master Steve Marriner and keyboardist Jesse O'Brien.
Vinyl LP pressing. 2020 release, the fourth album from the UK's best-selling country act. Good Years is The Shires' massively anticipated 4th album. Having recorded the album in Nashville. The title of the record couldn't ring truer for Ben and Crissie as the release follows two gold-certified albums and three Top 10 singles firmly cementing their status as two of country music's most prominent voices.
Two CD set. 2020 live release. Snarky Puppy is a Brooklyn, New York-based instrumental ensemble led by bassist Michael League. Snarky Puppy combines a variety of jazz idioms, rock, world music, and funk and has won three Grammy Awards. Although the band has worked with vocalists, League described Snarky Puppy as "a pop band that improvises a lot, without vocals".
The Exbats are a band from Bisbee, Arizona; a desolate hippie enclave along the Mexican/U.S. border. The town stretches along a super enormous pit from a mining operation that stopped decades ago. There are a bunch of bars and arty type gift shops in town. No stop lights. No Starbucks. It is from this place The Exbats write their hit songs, for an unsuspecting world. When we (Inez and Kenny McLain, father daughter rockers, with basser Bobby) get a fresh batch, we drive them into Tucson and record them at Midtown Island Studios, with kindred soul Matt Rendon (The Resonars). From there, the finished hits are sent to Fullerton CA for distribution by the Burger Records family. Ultimately these song should transmit a sense of possibility. The possibility of love. The possibility of loss. The unlimited possibility to party on, to follow your own desire. Oh yeah, and ... to FIGHT!
Truth or Consequences, Yumi Zouma’s third album and first for Polyvinyl was produced by the band and mixed by engineer Jake Aron (Solange, Grizzly Bear, Snail Mail) Christie Simpson’s voice gives weight to whispers of impressionistic poetry, shielding hard truths with soft tones, while Burgess’ vocals reveal a rarified dimension of raw and lucid romanticism, with lead single “Right Track / Wrong Man,” in particular, exhibiting a Balearic tempo and bass-heavy energy that belies its underlying tension. The first Yumi Zouma album to feature live drums, Truth or Consequences radiates a brazen spirit of perseverance. “I love the duality in a lot of disco songs, where they’re incredibly upbeat, but there’s real frustration in the lyrics – sort of like, ‘Nothing’s going the way I want, but I’ve got to deal with it any way I can,’” Simpson says.
HUMAN IMPACT is Chris Spencer (Unsane, UXO) Jim Coleman (Cop Shoot Cop) Chris Pravdica (Swans, Xiu Xiu) Phil Puleo (Cop Shoot Cop, Swans) The band's first recordings are a dark mirror held up to the bands collective pre-history. Its sound is cinematic post-industrial filth rock, a dozen run down subway stops away from recognizable civilization, as futuristic as it is grounded in its sordid heritage. The result is a potent, hard-boiled distillation of this sonic ethos
Limited double colored vinyl LP pressing in gatefold jacket. CocoRosie's seventh album - the aptly titled Put The Shine On - is a study in extremes, balancing some of the most pristine and adroit pop songs the band has ever crafted, while simultaneously exploring the most extreme states of human feeling and being-the result being an album that is both pristine and, at times, harrowing. Put The Shine On is a record that luxuriates in extremes, reflecting the pain and confusion of mental and the anguish of unpacking trauma, while also gleefully celebrating the possibility of newness, of wildness, and the ever-present potential for transformation. Nearly two decades deep into a career marked by experimentation and bucking convention, the duo have made what is arguably their most well-considered, emotionally complicated, and sonically adventurous record of their career.
Cool jazzy sounds spiked with pop, hip-hop, reggae, soul, calypso all in the service of positive vibes. Look beyond those seductive Surfaces where the musical depth of the band's principals, Colin Padalecki & Forrest Frank, shines. On new album Horizons the duo challenges the concept album. Influences from warm older sounds are reimagined & repainted in a modern musical pallet. Each song is unique in feelings yet each belongs in this atmosphere, layer by layer forming the realm that is Horizons.
When ABBA took the stage, their experience and professionalism showed. Audiences and critics were astounded that ABBA could reproduce their studio sound live. Although principally promoting their recent `Voulez-Vous' album, the set covered highlights throughout their career and contained a rare performance of Agnetha's "I'm Still Alive". The concert is available once again on 180g triple vinyl, produced by Ludvig Andersson and half-speed mastered at Abbey Road Studios by Miles Showell.
Hilary Woods' Birthmarks has been a labor of intensity and intuition, written over the course of two years. Recorded whilst heavily pregnant between Galway and Oslo in the winter of 2019, Woods explores the oscillating and volatile processes of selfhood and becoming, hidden gestational growth, and the birthing of the Self, amidst continuous social and personal change. Birthmarks is a record that hunts for ways in which to revisit and caress wounds left by the memory of their scars. In it's mystery and attentiveness to the art of alchemy and the world of the unseen, it is a journey through textural fog and feral density that gives way to passages of voracious sonic exorcism and poetic healing. It's eight songs traverse planes of visceral physicality, stark tender space, and breathtaking introspective beauty. Spurred on and crafted by the impulse to create a more corporeal sonic tendon for her songs to inhabit, Woods took her vision and home recordings to Norwegian experimental noise producer and filmmaker Lasse Marhaug. The collaboration proved rare and fruitful and lies at the heart of this record. Field recordings, analogue bass synthesizers, hushed vocals, and the breath are underpinned with heavy noise processing, fierce and wide cello, rich percussion, sable saxophone, and electronics. Birthmarks is inspired and informed by ideas of inner transmutation in the face of anxiety, post-war Japanese and wet-plate photography, early music, the secret life of trees, wolves, drone, the drawings of Francis Bacon, the images of Francesca Woodman, the films of Chris Marker, the experiential collapse of community, and the power of the lone human voice. It is a deeply powerful and enigmatic record that ultimately transcends it's disquiet roots.
Porches is my love affair with music'Music keeps me alive and I hope that by continuing to make and release it, I can make some people laugh, cry, fall in love, lose their sh*t, smile, run around, and most importantly, help them to feel alive for a brief moment. ' Aaron Maine Porches, the recording project of Aaron Maine, has returned with new album Ricky Music, a follow up to 2018's The House. Written and recorded between Maine's New York apartment and Jacob Portrait's Greenpoint studio, Ricky Music sees Maine experimenting with new productions techniques, imparting a more amorphous sound, while embracing a collaborative spirit, teaming up with a wide range of creators and friends ' Mitski (vocals on 'Madonna'), Zsela (backing vocals on 'Fuck_3'), Dev Hynes (Blood Orange) (backing vocals on 'rangerover' & 'Fuck_3'), Peter Maine (backing vocals on 'Wrote Some Songs'), among others. Ricky Music was written by Aaron Maine, except 'Patience,' which was written by Maine and Devault. The album was produced by Maine, co-produced by Jake Portrait, and engineered by both Maine and Portrait. Portrait also mixed the album, except 'rangerover' and 'Do U Wanna' which were mixed by James Krausse. The album was mastered by Heba Kadry.
Vinyl LP pressing. 2020 release. The band is known for their fast, punk-influenced two-piece bass and drum songs, with both their music and image being characterized by "DIY principles, thrift store-cum-glam fashion style and a vast list of influences." The brothers classify their sound as "vada vada," a philosophy which Wyatt Shears describes as "an idea that represents pure creative expression, that disregards all previously made genres and ideals".

Vinyl LP pressing. 2020 release from the singer/songwriter. Supernova, the follow-up to her 2018 debut Starfire, is a "reflection of on the highs and lows that make life so beautiful," according to a press release. It was written after an extensive time on the road and the birth of her second child.
2020 release by the death metal band formed Opeth bassist Martín Mendéz. For Mendéz, White Stones is a return to his roots, both musically and personally, as the groove-oriented death metal band was named after his birthplace in Uruguay. Fans shouldn't read too far into the bassist's election to start a death metal band as Opeth notably abandoned the aggressive, more extreme elements of their sound starting in 2011 with the release of Heritage. "I am 100 percent comfortable with what we're doing with Opeth," Mendéz reassured his fans.
Many of the most beautiful recordings in Ella Fitzgerald’s catalog were her duets with pianists. The freedom afforded by this simple configuration resulted in some of her most sensitive, affecting and heartfelt work. This collection assembles every recording Ella made in the piano duo format - for the Decca, Verve and Pablo labels. It includes 1950’s Ella Sings Gershwin, 1954’s Songs In A Mellow Mood (both with Ellis Larkins), 1956’s Let No Man Write My Epitaph (with Paul Smith).
enerated black metal specialists DARK FORTRESS return with a new album, Spectres from the Old World ! After a six-year gap, Germany s darkest sons continue where Venereal Dawn (2014) left off conceptually the birth-death lifecycle of the universe as told by spacetime but are expanding DARK FORTRESS musical horizons by descending faster and with spiteful intent into the cosmic abyss. Indeed, Spectres from the Old World is more direct, more aggressive than its predecessors. These musical themes play out fiercely in Coalescence, The Spider in the Web, Pazuzu, and the pivotal title track. Here, DARK FORTRESS prove that they remain committed to black metal s netherworld spark. The malignant sounds that inspired DARK FORTRESS on Tales from Eternal Dusk (2001), Seance (2006), and Ylem (2010) are still very much part of the DNA that makes up the band s finest hour on Spectres from the Old World. But as DARK FORTRESS find themselves in good black-hearted company, their destiny calls for venturing beyond the confines of the genre. Pali Aike, named after an actual Chilean hellscape, finds vocalist Morean marshalling his bandmates to very center of time-worn volcanoes to an epic thrum. Isa, in many ways the opposite of Pali Aike, feels very cold, its dissonance and grooves inspired by antediluvian ice storms. The triumvirate is complete with the limpid black expanse of Swan Song. At no time in DARK FORTRESS history have they reached so far out into the darkness, only to find the domine of astronomy non-existent, the end merely an end. Recorded, engineered, mixed, and mastered by V. Santura at Woodshed Studios throughout 2019, Spectres from the Old World marks an important milestone in DARK FORTRESS journey along actual and spiritual left-hand paths. Glimpse into the endless black of the universe on Spectres from the Old World.
Rookie is six matching jumpsuit-clad, shaggy-haired friends from Chicago who play rock 'n' roll that's more at home next to their parents' battered LPs than on their friends' streaming playlists. Their self-titled, debut full-length album deftly reformats the classic rock landscape with blowtorch hooks, enthralling harmonies, evocative touches of cosmic country, and distinctively indie-minded songwriting. Rookie's modern take on timeless American rock 'n' roll pulls from all corners of the sonic map, it's familiar but fresh, lived-in but blown-out. It's the '70s/'80s pop-rock sheen of Cheap Trick, 3-minute precision songwriting of Big Star, loose Neil Young Americana, and hazey, psych-flavored boogie of the Allman Brothers and Thin Lizzy. Though barely able to comfortably fit on most stages, once they're plugged in and smooshed together it's a potent blend of power chords, blistering leads, and performance prowess beyond their years. Like local peers Twin Peaks, Whitney, and Post Animal, Rookie emerged from an idealistic grassroots, Midwestern, youth community-centric, DIY scene. House shows and divey all-ages venues were the preeminent performance spaces and rock 'n' roll was once again king. There is an all-inclusive and carefree essence surrounding the band, as well as their audience, reminiscent of the wide-eyed drive and sense of purpose of an underdog sports team or - more appropriately, given their jumpsuits - a Formula 1 pit crew. That cooperative vibe is most clear in their balanced attack, each of the six members bringing a signature part of the layered sound from song to song. "Hold On Tight" bashes down the door with a deceptively simple AC-to-the-DC riff, but the three-headed guitar monster attack of Dimitri Panoutsos, Chris Devlin and Max Loebman takes the standby arena rock formula to wild new places. In "Sunglasses" Loebman's lead vocals evince an ethereally sunny pop disposition, which he later strips down to great effect, just his upper register and acoustic guitar, for the stark "Elementary Blues". Throughout the album's 12 tracks, the rhythm section of Joe Bordenaro on drums, Kevin Decker on bass, and Justin Bell on keys establishes a groove-meets-power foundation. On several songs, including "I Can't Have You But I Want You," Bordenaro sings lead as well, while the rest of the group piles on with a rowdy gang chorus. The band of 20-somethings created their broad-yet-intimate sound not long after forming in 2017 from the remnants of under the radar local outfits Joe Bordenaro & the Late Bloomers, Yoko and the Oh Nos, and Max and the Mild Ones. The budding project soon became the subject of excited whispers around town. In 2018, the group released two singles on Bandcamp ("One Way Ticket" and "Let's Get It Right") and a 7" single ("I Can't Have You But I Want You" and "The Move") for nascent studio/imprint Treehouse Records These recordings raised the whispers to the level of folklore.
Sam Gendel’s Nonesuch Records debut, Satin Doll will be released March 13, 2020. Recorded in Gendel’s native California, Satin Doll is a futuristic homage to historical jazz. The album features three musicians—Gendel on saxophone, Gabe Noel on electric bass, and Philippe Melanson on electronic percussion—engaging in simultaneous synchronized sonic construction/deconstruction of jazz standards, including Miles Davis’ “Freddie Freeloader,” Charles Mingus’ “Goodbye Pork Pie Hat,” and Duke Ellington’s “Satin Doll.”
This new studio album is music that is the Burrito Brothers' message to love!
This band's history has been characterized by change, with the first incarnation of The Flying Burrito Brothers simply taking the name of a band that had just folded - albeit one that had been named with Gram Parsons in mind. Gram himself said of the band, ''The idea'll keep going on. It's not like it's dead or anything. Whether I do it or anybody else does it, it's got to keep going.'' And so it has. From the early incarnation that featured Gram and Chris Hillman of The Byrds and recorded the seminal albums 'The Gilded Palace Of Sin' and 'Burrito Deluxe' the only constant has been change.
The iconic Gram Parsons was fired from the band in 1970 as it was felt that he was spending too much time hanging with the Stones and not enough time working, but the membership morphed constantly; in fact, no two consecutive LPs feature the same personnel. The band was even known as Sierra for a while, before becoming The Burrito Brothers, then came another phase as The Flying Burrito Brothers, then Burrito Deluxe, then in 2012 The Burrito Brothers once again! The line-up on 'The Notorious Burrito Brothers' album features: Chris P James - who is marking his tenth year with the band - on Vocals, Keyboards and Harmonica, Tony Paoletta on Pedal Steel Guitar, Dobro and Mandolin, Bob Hatter on Electric & Acoustic Guitars and Bass, with Peter Young on Drums, Vocals and Percussion. They play everything on every song except 'Do Right Man', which features Ronnie Guilbeau (the son of Gil Gilbeau who was a member of The Flying Burrito Brothers from 1974 - 1984) on lead vocal and bass.
The Burrito Brothers extend credit (with high interest) to: Ronnie Guilbeau, Walter Egan, Fred James, Coley Hinson, Michael Curtis, Rick Lonow, Carlton Moody, Supe Granda, Jody Maphis, John Sturdivant Jr, Larry Marrs, Bill Lloyd, Skip Spence, Al Perkins, Thomas Aubrunner, Rick Roberts, Terry Rogers, Rusty Russell, Don Richmond, Will James, Randall Harris, Sam Lowe and Argyle Bell.
The third studio album by the band from Essen, recorded by Martin Furia (Vanderbuyst, Destruction). Classic Hard'n'Heavy, reduced to the bare essentials - guitar, bass, drums and pithy hooks - with the mission to revive the feeling of the 80s (which the boys only know from legends and stories) and to transport them into the year 2020.
King Solomon Hicks grew up in Harlem and was surrounded by a lot of great musicians. Those influences shine through on Hicks’ debut album, ‘Harlem’, which is an 11-song salute to those roots mixed with Hicks’ own distinctive style. Produced by multiple Grammy Award winner Kirk Yano (Miles Davis, Public Enemy, Mariah Carey), the album showcases Hicks as a writer, player and interpreter. The young, rising blues star debut album will be released by blues connaisseur label Provogue Records on March 13, 2020.
World-renowned, horn-fueled "little big band" releases their first release in seven years and their first new studio recording in nine. Roomful of Blues have over 364,000 career scans, even though their first six releases predated SoundScan. 2011's Hook, Line & Sinker, has scanned over 7,900 units. Tour dates in support of the new release begin in their native Northeast region, where they still do the most touring and are regarded as legends.
Originally released in 1998, Spoon's sophomore album A Series of Sneaks has not only become a favorite amongst the most diehard of Spoon fans, but is widely considered an overlooked classic in the band's exceptional repertoire. With all but three of the 14 tracks coming in under three minutes, A Series of Sneaks is a remarkably economic yet incredibly boisterous album that sounds as exciting and inventive since its original release over twenty years ago.
Building on the pop experimentalism of their previous album Girls Can Tell, Spoon's fourth full length Kill the Moonlight marked an important creative milestone for the band and solidified frontman Britt Daniel as one of the most unique voices and songwriters in rock. Featuring fan favorites such as 'The Way We Get By', 'Small Stakes', and 'Stay Don't Go', Kill the Moonlight remains one of the most celebrated and cherished albums of the band's illustrious career.
Upon recording their seventh full length album Transference, Spoon did away with producers and decided to completely self-produce their record for the first time. The result was a more expansive and creatively spontaneous record that harkens back to the humble beginnings of the band's history while continuing to push their sound into more experimental spheres. Featuring singles 'Who Makes Your Money', 'Written in Reverse' and fan favorite 'Got Nuffin', Transference is a fully unfiltered look at one of the most creative acts in modern music.
