The Ad Libs, a pheonominal-yet-underappreciated American vocal group hailing from Hudson County, NJ, had their first and only smash hit within their first year as a group, with 'The Boy From New York City.' Earth Rot is visionary composer/arranger/producer David Axelrod’s third album, and the last of his Capitol Trilogy. Recorded as a concept album about the decrepit state of the environment in 1970 Los Angeles, and scheduled for release on the first Earth Day, it features choral vocals and marks a departure for Axelrod’s signature sound, which would take on a jazzier feel in the 1970s.

Blue Cheer were the loudest, heaviest band of the 1960s. What they played and how they played it was labeled Heavy Metal – partly from a reference by the Beat writer William F. Burroughs and partly from a lyric in Steppenwolf’s Born To Be Wild (Heavy Metal Thunder . . .). It described them perfectly – and they ushered in a new age of searingly loud and upfront Rock which would quickly establish itself as the outer-fringe of Psychedelia. These three early demo tracks predate their debut album Vincebus Eruptum, and have more grind, guts, and grit than anything they've ever recorded! This one-sided EP on colored vinyl is the first ever vinyl release of this material.

JazzFest Berlin (also known as the Berlin Jazz Festival) is a jazz festival based in Berlin, Germany. Originally called the "Berliner Jazztage" (Berlin Jazz Days, until 1980 when the name was changed), it was founded in 1964 in West Berlin by the Berliner Festspiele. Whereas famous US jazz celebrities set the tone during the first decades, the Berlin Jazz Festival increasingly has presented artists from all around the globe, with an increasing emphasis on contemporary European jazz. Also appearing that year were Herbie Mann, Carla Thomas, Don Cherry with Pharoah Sanders, Don Ellis (who makes a guest appearance here), Gary Burton, Elvin Jones, Muddy Waters with Otis Spann and numerous other jazz luminaries. The festival's artistic concept has been "to document, support, and validate trends in jazz, and to mirror the diversity of creative musical activity. On transparent purple vinyl.

Roy Buchanan is the guitarist’s guitar hero. Singularly uninterested in rock stardom and the trappings of fame that go with it, Buchanan never achieved the popularity of his six-string peers; yet his unfathomable technique and ferocious Telecaster tone put him near the top of any serious listing of the greatest guitarists of all time. Stories abound about the regard with which other musicians held Roy (and the indifference with which he greeted their esteem); for example, legend has it he turned down the Rolling Stones for the job Mick Taylor got, and blew off playing with John Lennon, while Jeff Beck dedicated “’Cause We’ve Ended as Lovers” from Blow by Blow to him. These days, his ability to create the sounds he did without the use of any effects, often from his patented “pinch harmonic” method of playing, continue to astound players both casual and professional. Buchanan recorded a number of commendable studio albums, but on stage was where the magic happened; that’s why most listeners deem the 1974 Live Stock album to be his best. But the tracks on that album, like most live records, were cherry-picked from several different shows, in this case both sets Roy played at New York City’s Town Hall on November 27, 1974. In fact, of the 21 songs Roy played that night, only six came out on Live Stock, and one other, a version of Neil Young’s “Down by the River,” came out on a subsequent compilation. That leaves 14 unreleased performances—and now, Real Gone Music presents Live at Town Hall 1974, a 3-LP set that captures both shows in their entirety, drawn from the original multitrack tapes recorded that night by The Record Plant Mobile Studio. Several things strike you as you listen to these two shows. First, this was a good band, perhaps Roy’s best, with Malcolm Lukens on keyboards, John Harrison on bass, Ronnie “Byrd” Foster on drums, and Billy Price on lead vocals when Roy didn’t take a turn. Second, the six tracks originally selected for Live Stock were the “safe” tracks, showing the band at their most succinct. It’s no accident that all but one came from the first show; during the second show, the band—perhaps spurred on by some refreshment during intermission—positively swaggers as Roy deals one lightning lead after another, even having fun with a faulty patch cord on the first song of the second set. For this monumental release, we’ve made every effort to put you right in the front row; both our liner note writer (Buchanan biographer Phil Carson) and photographer (Charles R. Cohen) were there that night, and have the stories and shots to prove it. Mixed and mastered by Tom Lewis at Studio 1093 in Athens, Georgia, and produced by Bill Levenson, this one’s a major addition to the Buchanan discography and further proof that nobody, but nobody, played guitar like Roy Buchanan.

By the time Sweetheart Of The Rodeo was released in 1968, The Byrds had already changed the sound of rock music twice; from jangling folk-rock to experimental acid-rock, they constantly sought to push the boundaries of what rock music could be. The 1967 departure of David Crosby left a creative void filled quickly by country music-loving Gram Parsons, whose addition led Roger McGuinn, Chris Hillman and company to record an album comprised mostly of authentic country material in Nashville, with the aid of local session aces (including future Byrd Clarence White). For the first time on vinyl—and on the heels of a 50th anniversary tour of the album by original members McGuinn and Hillman—this Legacy Edition of Sweetheart Of The Rodeo showcases this country-rock masterpiece alongside 28 bonus tracks, including demos, outtakes, rehearsal versions and tracks by Parsons’ pre-Byrds outfit, The International Submarine Band.
Hot on the heels of Captured Tracks' reissue of Capital Punishment’s 1982 album Roadkill, the quartet of Kriss Roebling, Ben Stiller, Peter Zusi, and Peter Swann present This Is Capital Punishment – an EP of new material recorded almost 35 years after the group disbanded. Recorded at the Garden in Brooklyn, This Is Capital Punishment came about when Captured Tracks boss Mike Sniper asked Roebling for bonus material for the Roadkill reissue. The original members got back together and did a remake of their track "Confusion." A blistering take on the original, the new version reimagines “Confusion” as a much louder and sinister track. It was so loved by the label – and the band had so much fun recording it – that they decided to record new material. Capital Punishment burn through four other tracks that all explore the darker edges of rock ‘n’ roll. From the strangely sultry “Drumming Out Time Inside Me” and “Grey And Illuminate” to the band’s favorite “Hot Love,” Capital Punishment may not be teenage punks anymore, but they certainly haven’t lost their edge. Pressed on translucent blue vinyl, This Is Capital Punishment is limited to 1500 copies worldwide.

Once upon a time, CKY burned it all down, with a raucous, anarchic, hard rock sound soaked in the skate-punk culture that birthed them and a hard-partying lifestyle onstage and off that decimated relationships and reputations in its wake. CKY’s sonic rebirth sounds as incendiary, expansive, and groovy. Each song is a forceful meditation on what makes CKY so killer.THis Record Store Day Black Friday EP features four new CKY recordings..

On March 6, 1963, John Coltrane and his Classic Quartet—McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison, and Elvin Jones –recorded an entire studio album at the legendary Van Gelder Studios. To commemorate this, a unique, collectable die-cut, orange vinyl 12" of two tracks from that recording is being released for Record Store Day Black Friday. This not-to-be-missed title is limited to 5000 pieces worldwide and is available only at participating independent record stores.

On January 1, 1976, Rolling Stone magazine called the debut album by West Virginian prog-rock pioneers Crack The Sky “…one of year’s most impressive debuts.” On August 21, 2018, Rolling Stone wrote “Crack the Sky: the Strange Survival Story of the Best U.S. Prog Band You’ve Never Heard.” They were named by Rolling Stone in their 2015 list of 50 Greatest Prog Rock Albums Of All Time and in their 20 Rock Albums Rolling Stone Loved in the 1970s That You Never Heard, the magazine’s very first review in 1976 went on to compare the band to Steely Dan, 10cc, The Tubes, Ian Hunter, and the inimitable Davie Bowie. Some 40 years later the band released their 20th album, Living in Reverse, 12 new genre-defying Crack tracks. The vinyl version is now being made available via Record Store Day Black Friday.

One of new wave's most innovative and (for a time) successful bands, Devo was also perhaps one of its most misunderstood. Formed in 1972 by Kent State art students Jerry Casale and Mark Mothersbaugh, Devo took its name from their concept of "de-evolution" -- the idea that instead of evolving, mankind has actually regressed, as evidenced by the dysfunction and herd mentality of American society. Their music echoed this view of society as rigid, repressive, and mechanical, with appropriate touches -- jerky, robotic rhythms; an obsession with technology and electronics (the group was among the first non-prog rock bands to make the synthesizer a core element); often atonal melodies and chord progressions -- all of which were filtered through the perspectives of geeky misfits. And now, Devo's debut album on picture disc for the first time!

The singles released by Gloria Ann Taylor are well-established rare treasures in the Soul music canon. Although Taylor was nominated for a Grammy, performed live on bills featuring The Emotions, Johnnie Taylor, B.B. King, and The O’Jays, and had a circle of friends that included Bootsy Collins and James Brown, by the the mid-1970s her career had stalled and she abruptly quit the music business. Taylor’s records later became highly sought-after by DJs and rare groove collectors, prized for a hauntingly soulful sound that mixed northern soul with exotic percussion and psychedelic guitars. Gloria Ann Taylor passed away in December 2017 at the ago of 73. Now, for the first time since 1973, her famed single “Deep Inside You” is back in print on 7” vinyl, courtesy of Nature Sounds. This limited-edition pressing of the often-sampled Columbia Records release also includes the original b-side “World That’s Not Real”.

The Amazing Jeckel Brothers was released in 1999, and was the fifth entry in their "Joker's Cards" anthology of albums. Jeckel Brothers set itself apart with its sound, heavily indebted to classic 90s rap, as opposed to the hard-rock influence of earlier records, featuring key contributions from legends of hip-hop like Ol' Dirty Bastard and Snoop Dogg, from
fellow horrorcore icons Twiztid, ska-revival band Gangsta Fun, and even prank call comedians The Jerky Boys. Despite receiving a thrashing from critics, Insane Clown Posse defied the press it received, when The Amazing Jeckel Brothers debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200 charts, and ultimately reached platinum status in 2008. In celebration of this landmark album, Insane Clown Posse's own Psychopathic Records now presents this special reissue of The Amazing Jeckel Brothers. A Soulful Sunday: Live at the Left Bank is the very first official release of this recording by jazz vocalist Etta Jones. Jones flew in from Chicago, IL just before this set began at the Famous Ballroom in Baltimore, MD with Cedar Walton on piano, Sam Jones on bass and Billy Higgins on drums, and provided instant enjoyment for the crowd gathered on Sunday, February 27, 1972. The extensive booklet includes rare and previously-unpublished photos; essay by acclaimed author James Gavin; interviews with saxophonist and Jones' longtime musical partner Houston Person, John Fowler of the Left Bank Jazz Society and Grammy-winning vocalist Catherine Russell; plus much more! "A great and permanently underrated jazz singer." (Ben Ratliff, The New York Times). Mastered by the legendary Bernie Grundman at Bernie Grundman Mastering Studios in Hollywood, CA and pressed at Microforum Vinyl Record Pressing in Toronto, Ontario. A Soulful Afternoon, along with Cannonball Adderley Swingin' in Seattle: Live at the Penthouse (1966-1967), are the first two releases from the newly-formed Reel to Real Records launched by saxophonist Cory Weeds and producer Zev Feldman focused on important archival jazz releases.

Be Gentle With The Warm Turtle is the second studio recording by the Seattle quartet Kinski. Kinski's song structure, dynamics, delivery, and sheer volume of sound are stunning. They confidently occupy a space between Sonic Youth, Slint, Mogwai and Yo La Tengo. Available for the first time on vinyl as a double LP with two bonus tracks previously only available on compilations, their debut full length release ranks as a quite an achievement, succeeding where others in the often tiresome world of instrumental rock have failed.
