* Official Record Store Day title * Limited to 3,000 copies on “Angel Shock” color wax * Never before released in any format * Audio restored and remastered from original film transfers * LP housed in a deluxe gatefold Stoughton tip-on jacket * Includes 20-page book with rare archive photos and liner notes Q&A with writer/director David Weisman Edie Sedgwick was the true “It Girl” of the Pop Art age; a woman who famously said she wanted "to turn the world on just for a moment". Part of Andy Warhol's Factory for a year in the mid-'60s, she is widely believed to have inspired The Velvet Underground's “Femme Fatale” as well as Bob Dylan's “Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat” and “Just Like A Woman”. 1973's Ciao! Manhattan, the model and actor's final film, gave some indication of why she inspired such devotion. Written and directed by Factory affiliates John Palmer and David Weisman, the movie tells a quasi-fictionalised account – a chronicle à clef in Weisman's words – of Sedgewick's journey from New York to Santa Barbara. In the film, Sedgwick is Susan Superstar, a New Yorker who winds up living in a drained Santa Barbara swimming pool in a narcotic daze, life and art just a hair away from each other. Shot over a five year period, Sedgwick died of a barbiturate overdose at the age of 28 before filming wrapped in 1971. For a movie starring some of rock's great muses, the soundtrack fittingly features cult figures of the era: Richie Havens (“Shouldn't All The World Be Dancing”, “To Give All Your Love Away”, “I Can’t Make It Anymore”), John Phillips (“Malibu People”) and Byrds/Flying Burrito Brothers member Skip Battin, who performs Kim Fowley's “Citizen Kane”. Other artists are less well-known, including actor Kim Milford, who sings the stirring “Justice”, and Factory man Gino Piserchio, an artist and dear friend of Weisman, whose synthesizer compositions anchor the score. Never before released in any format, this long-overdue pressing includes all of the above plus selected dialogue from the film, each snippet like a beat poem in its own way. The Village Voice once called Ciao! “The Citizen Kane of the drug generation"; deeply evocative of the era, the mood of the soundtrack captures the psychedelic spirit of the film, as well as the darkness and tragedy that characterized Edie's life.
Angel Shock - Gino Piserchio Malibu People - John Phillips “Bad karma…” - [dialogue] Citizen Kane - Skip Battin & Kim Fowley To Give All Your Love Away - Richie Havens Driving Verdecchio - Gino Piserchio "Turn the whole world on just for a moment…” - [dialogue] Night Riders - Gino Piserchio “Open the door!” - [dialogue] I Can’t Make It Anymore - Richie Havens "Wake up!” - [dialogue] Justice - Kim Milford Revolution of the Youth - Gino Piserchio “Anyway I’m a star!” - [dialogue] Doctor Feelgood - Gino Piserchio “Meth burns your brain cells out…” - [dialogue] Shouldn’t All The World Be Dancing? - Richie Havens
Originally found on Jansch’s final album of the same name, ‘The Black Swan’ is featured here on a 7” single, flanked by an early demo. The two songs are at parallels; where the demo shows the bare bones of the track (working title: 'Space Highway’), the finished article is something altogether more orchestral, with Helena Espvall’s (then of Espers) soaring cello providing a foil for Jansch’s supremely melodic refrain. Fans will surely be intrigued to see the process involved in the evolution of ‘Black Swan’ - the paradox in the two versions each beautiful in its own way. Artwork again comes from Earth collaborator Hannah Alice, with her own interpretation of The Black Swan’s plumage. Remastered by Brian Pyle. Limited to 2000 worldwide.

The Film: This strikingly shot concert documentary follows enigmatic Drag City singer-songwriter Bill Callahan on a two week tour from California to New York. For the past 25 years, under both the Smog moniker and under his own name, Callahan has cultivated a legacy as both a pioneer in the lo-fi movement and one of the country’s finest troubadours. The film is built on impressionistic scenes of Callahan’s life on the road combined with his cryptic musings ("I started playing music when I was 20, and time stopped for me then in a good way”), creating a voyeuristic glimpse into his meticulously constructed universe of disaffection and disorder. It is an austere and beautiful portrait of both the musician and the multifarious American landscape.
The Gatefold LP packaging will include the DVD of the film and an LP of exclusive vinyl only tracks.

Guitar legend and Television co-founder Richard Lloyd has had a profound influence on rock & roll, with people like Jeff Tweedy citing Lloyd as his “musical hero”. Yet Lloyd’s solo career has somehow largely been overlooked and under-appreciated.With the release of his critically acclaimed 2017 memoir, Everything is Combustable, there is a renewed interest in his post-Television work. Perhaps the most obscure of his solo releases is Lodestones, an album that was released in 2010 only as a digital download. That album is finally getting its due with a vinyl pressing for Record Store Day 2018.

Cecil Taylor has always been considered one of the most daring and radical improvisers within the jazz genre, often pushing the boundaries with avant-garde and free jazz compositions. The Great Paris Concert is no exception Taylor's reputation. The artistic communication between the players of Taylor's quartet is second to none, and it's certainly palpable on every track of the album. Echoing each other's melodies, and 'battling' each other with solos, the group may have never sounded better. This historic concert - long out of print on vinyl - has been remastered by Infrasonic Mastering, and is presented across two audiophile-grade LPs, complete with photos and liner notes.

San Fermin Live At The Fillmore was recorded at The Fillmore in San Francisco, CA on February 23, 2018. Magik*Magik Orchestra, who have toured with Death Cab For Cutie, Nick Cave, Weezer, etc., joined San Fermin during the performance. Also, the performance occurred during the filming of a currently unreleased documentary entitled San Fermin: No Promises, which provides a glimpse into the five-year history of critically-acclaimed indie rock band San Fermin. The piece details the band’s rise from its classical music underpinnings to a touring enterprise and perennial festival performer. Shown through the lens of sold-out shows on the east and west coast, everyday life in New York City, and studio recording and rehearsal, the film unwraps the relationships that have transformed a grandiose, logistically impractical endeavor from bandleader Ellis Ludwig-Leone into a unique community of musicians and friends. As the journey unfolds, this community is tested by the departure of its lead singer as they begin work on a new album. The show at The Fillmore was the last for the band's lead singer. The documentary will be released in conjunction with the live album and a digital or physical copy of the documentary will be included in the vinyl package.

“Bang Bang” has remained a curious single in the Squeeze discography, as it was nearly disowned by its songwriters Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford. Even more curious, however, is renowned wizard (and true star) Todd Rundgren covering it for the fourth installment in the Swindles series. Rundgren takes the song down a electropop wormhole, transforming the tune into something completely unique from the original recording. “Bang Bang” was produced and engineered by Rundgren and Swindles-curator Steve Mandel and is available as a limited edition 45 single for Record Store Day Black Friday 2019.

Hot on the heels of Captured Tracks' reissue of Capital Punishment’s 1982 album Roadkill, the quartet of Kriss Roebling, Ben Stiller, Peter Zusi, and Peter Swann present This Is Capital Punishment – an EP of new material recorded almost 35 years after the group disbanded. Recorded at the Garden in Brooklyn, This Is Capital Punishment came about when Captured Tracks boss Mike Sniper asked Roebling for bonus material for the Roadkill reissue. The original members got back together and did a remake of their track "Confusion." A blistering take on the original, the new version reimagines “Confusion” as a much louder and sinister track. It was so loved by the label – and the band had so much fun recording it – that they decided to record new material. Capital Punishment burn through four other tracks that all explore the darker edges of rock ‘n’ roll. From the strangely sultry “Drumming Out Time Inside Me” and “Grey And Illuminate” to the band’s favorite “Hot Love,” Capital Punishment may not be teenage punks anymore, but they certainly haven’t lost their edge. Pressed on translucent blue vinyl, This Is Capital Punishment is limited to 1500 copies worldwide.

These legendary tracks were the demos recorded for the Priest Driven Ambulance album, with the classic band line-up featuring Jonathan Donahue from Mercury Rev on guitar. Insurgence, AKA Insurgence DC, bring us their first full length album in 20 years with "Broken In The Theater Of The Absurd". With a strong punk 1980's influence, in the stylings of the Clash, Fugazi and the Minutemen) this entire Insurgence DC ( Da Capo) album is about recognizing and surviving in the greedy, corrupt and polarized landscape of modern day America. The anthemic "Salt" starts out with the words "Of The People, By The People and For The Few It Seems". The powerful "Outlines Of Chalk" displays strong, outspoken commentary ("A gun is a gun, but not all are equal-The AR-15 fills us with unlimited sequels") . "Outline Of Chalk" is an intense, heartfelt voice against leaders who take their "blood pay from the NRA". Many other songs such as "Poison Profits", "Pick Pocket Pirates" ,"Dishonor" and "Polarization" also point out and reveal the unethical politicians on Capitol Hill ("Snakes in Suits") and the slimy corporations that pay these leaders until they 'Kick That Can" and leave it for future generations to clean up. In doing so they "The Few" have tapped into and virtually broken the backbone of our entire legislative and legal sysem. The songs "True To Life" and "Third Part Opinions" are more introspective anthems, suggesting people form their own opinions and take an individual stance on matters rather than "following like sheep". Insurgence formed in 1987 and have remained DIY and fiercely independent for their entire existence. From 1987 to 1999 they played over 400 shows and had three full length albums and several releases on 7" and cassette. Since returning from hiatus in 2014, they have had two 7" releases and been on three compilations. 'Broken In The Theater Of The Absurd' was recorded at various studios and mixed in 2018-2019 in Arlington, VA at Inner Ear Studios with Don Zientara and in Raleigh, NC at Pershing Hill Studios with Greg Elkins. This pressing is on 180 gram vinyl and is limited to 700 numbered copies, 300 on colored vinyl and 400 on black. Comes with a digital download. 400 Black/300 Smoke Vinyl Pressing. NOTE: This is being released in connection with Crooked Beat Records in Northern Virginia, and will have a heavy concentration there.

These are the first recordings since Gameface’s reunion album in 2014, Now Is What Matters Now. They came as a surprise to to the band, who hadn’t intended to write or record any new material, but inspiration struck on the heels of their Japan tour earlier this year and they went directly into the studio as soon as they were back in California. “I Owe You One” is the most upbeat and catchy song they’ve written since My Star (from Every Last Time 1999). The Tom Petty song is poignant for two reasons. They are huge fans and were heartbroken (pun intended) to hear of his unexpected passing last year. The band chose to record “Two Gunslingers” because of its message of change, in light of our country’s mass shooting epidemic and sick obsession with guns. Gameface’s next adventure is in September when they head over to Brazil for the first time to play some festival shows.
The Southern California-based out t, now featuring Jeff Caudill along with Todd D. Trout (guitar), Guy Julian (bass) and Steve Sanderson (drums), originally formed in the summer of 1990 and has since released six full-length albums, each carrying the band’s dynamic, distinctive sound that has gone on to in uence countless bands over the years. Recorded and mixed at Black Bear 11 in Malibu, CA. Specifically recorded for RSD. Never before released.

Given out as part of the "B.I.G. MACK" promo only package from Bad Boy Entertainment in 1994. To create a buzz around the new record label and these artists Puff Daddy came out with an unforgettable marketing campaign. The results would exceed everyone’s expectations. Craig Mack’s Funk Da World would go gold and the single “Flava In Your Ear” would go platinum. As everyone knows Biggie’s career went into the stratosphere with his album Ready To Die eventually going 6x platinum and the single “Juicy” going gold that same year. Limited to 8000 copies worldwide.
Blue Cheer were the loudest, heaviest band of the 1960s. What they played and how they played it was labeled Heavy Metal – partly from a reference by the Beat writer William F. Burroughs and partly from a lyric in Steppenwolf’s Born To Be Wild (Heavy Metal Thunder . . .). It described them perfectly – and they ushered in a new age of searingly loud and upfront Rock which would quickly establish itself as the outer-fringe of Psychedelia. These three early demo tracks predate their debut album Vincebus Eruptum, and have more grind, guts, and grit than anything they've ever recorded! This one-sided EP on colored vinyl is the first ever vinyl release of this material.

Something Weird Video was founded in 1990 by Mike Vraney in Seattle, Washington. He was inspired by his teenage job as a theater projectionist. His love for the obscure films that never made it to video prompted him to transfer hundreds of ancient reels of film to VHS and DVD. The company specializes in exploitation/sexploitation films of the '30s through the '70s. Iconic purveyors of the lost and the strange, Something Weird Video, have partnered with Modern Harmonic to bring you 2 CDs of the greatest songs and soundbites from their voluminous catalog of filth and general grindhouse fodder. Truly Something Weird indeed.
