Mike Patton

1922 Original Score [LP]

ON SALE $27.99 Vinyl: $18.75 Buy

MP3 Album: $9.99 Download

Mike Patton's (Faith No More, Dead Cross) expanded score to the Stephen King sourced Netflix film, 1922, sees a July 20 release via Ipecac Recordings.

The release serves as Patton's scoring follow-up to his critically-acclaimed composition to The Place Beyond The Pines, a musical outing that Pitchfork said served as "the glue uniting the film's three disparate sections and many different tones" and Movie Music UK said Patton offered an "intelligent way of arranging his collages of sounds into fascinating musical effects."

1922 is based on Stephen King's 131-page story, telling of a man's confession of his wife's murder. The tale is told from the perspective of Wilfred James, the story's unreliable narrator who admits to killing his wife, Arlette, with his son in Nebraska. But after he buries her body, he finds himself terrorized by rats and, as his life begins to unravel, becomes convinced his wife is haunting him.

Blinded By The Light: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack brings together 12 essential Bruce Springsteen performances ranging from greatest hits and fan favorites ("Born To Run," "Dancing In The Dark," "Hungry Heart," "Because The Night") to previously unreleased tracks, including the long-sought-after studio recording of "I'll Stand By You." Also, for the first time on album, Blinded By The Light: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack presents two live rarities: the debut live performance of "The River" (from No Nukes '79 - Madison Square Garden, NYC - September 21, 1979) and an unforgettable acoustic solo performance of "The Promised Land" (Concert for Valor - The National Mall, Washington DC, November 11, 2014). In addition to the Springsteen performances, Blinded By The Light: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack includes period tracks and dialog from the film and premieres "For You My Love," a new song written for the film by soundtrack composer A.R. Rahman ("Slumdog Millionaire"). Rahman has won six National Film Awards, two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe Award, fifteen Filmfare Awards and seventeen Filmfare Awards South. Inspired by a true story (Sarfraz Manzoor's Greetings from Bury Park: Race, Religion and Rock N' Roll) and the words and music of Bruce Springsteen, New Line Cinema's "Blinded by the Light" is the new coming-of-age film directed by Gurinder Chadha ("Bend It Like Beckham"). The film follows Javed (Viveik Kalra), a British teen of Pakistani descent, growing up in Luton, England in 1987. Javed's turbulent life amidst the racial and economic turmoil of the times is transformed when he is introduced to the music of Bruce Springsteen.

* Official Record Store Day title * Limited to 3,000 copies on “Angel Shock” color wax * Never before released in any format * Audio restored and remastered from original film transfers * LP housed in a deluxe gatefold Stoughton tip-on jacket * Includes 20-page book with rare archive photos and liner notes Q&A with writer/director David Weisman Edie Sedgwick was the true “It Girl” of the Pop Art age; a woman who famously said she wanted "to turn the world on just for a moment". Part of Andy Warhol's Factory for a year in the mid-'60s, she is widely believed to have inspired The Velvet Underground's “Femme Fatale” as well as Bob Dylan's “Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat” and “Just Like A Woman”. 1973's Ciao! Manhattan, the model and actor's final film, gave some indication of why she inspired such devotion. Written and directed by Factory affiliates John Palmer and David Weisman, the movie tells a quasi-fictionalised account – a chronicle ŕ clef in Weisman's words – of Sedgewick's journey from New York to Santa Barbara. In the film, Sedgwick is Susan Superstar, a New Yorker who winds up living in a drained Santa Barbara swimming pool in a narcotic daze, life and art just a hair away from each other. Shot over a five year period, Sedgwick died of a barbiturate overdose at the age of 28 before filming wrapped in 1971. For a movie starring some of rock's great muses, the soundtrack fittingly features cult figures of the era: Richie Havens (“Shouldn't All The World Be Dancing”, “To Give All Your Love Away”, “I Can’t Make It Anymore”), John Phillips (“Malibu People”) and Byrds/Flying Burrito Brothers member Skip Battin, who performs Kim Fowley's “Citizen Kane”. Other artists are less well-known, including actor Kim Milford, who sings the stirring “Justice”, and Factory man Gino Piserchio, an artist and dear friend of Weisman, whose synthesizer compositions anchor the score. Never before released in any format, this long-overdue pressing includes all of the above plus selected dialogue from the film, each snippet like a beat poem in its own way. The Village Voice once called Ciao! “The Citizen Kane of the drug generation"; deeply evocative of the era, the mood of the soundtrack captures the psychedelic spirit of the film, as well as the darkness and tragedy that characterized Edie's life.

Angel Shock - Gino Piserchio Malibu People - John Phillips “Bad karma…” - [dialogue] Citizen Kane - Skip Battin & Kim Fowley To Give All Your Love Away - Richie Havens Driving Verdecchio - Gino Piserchio "Turn the whole world on just for a moment…” - [dialogue] Night Riders - Gino Piserchio “Open the door!” - [dialogue] I Can’t Make It Anymore - Richie Havens "Wake up!” - [dialogue] Justice - Kim Milford Revolution of the Youth - Gino Piserchio “Anyway I’m a star!” - [dialogue] Doctor Feelgood - Gino Piserchio “Meth burns your brain cells out…” - [dialogue] Shouldn’t All The World Be Dancing? - Richie Havens

Waxwork Records is thrilled to present the Original Motion Picture Score and Soundtrack to HER SMELL. Written and directed by Alex Ross Perry (Queen Of Earth) and starring Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid's Tale), HER SMELL is a 2018 psychodrama divided into five Acts that focuses on the narcissistic and destructive punk icon Becky Something (Moss), lead vocalist of the fictional 90's band, Something She. The film examines corrupted relationships and the high cost of fame as Becky is consumed by her ego, substance abuse, and psychotic breakdowns that come in endless, rageful waves. The claustrophobic and panic attack inducing score by Keegan DeWitt is, like the movie, divided into multiple Acts that serve as a disorienting and caustic auditory assault unlike any music composed for film before. Melody and hooks are lit aflame and violently replaced by an annihilating war on the listener's senses that infects on an unnerving level far deeper than any standard film score could ever wish to accomplish. If a total mental breakdown married a nightmarish hallucination, DeWitt's score to HER SMELL would be the unrelenting and violently spiraling listening experience. In addition to DeWitt's score and included as a 7" vinyl EP are the soundtracks songs performed by the fictional alt-rock trio from HER SMELL, Akergirls, featuring Cara Delevingne, Ashley Benson, and Amber Heard. Also included on this companion 7" are two solo tracks performed by Elisabeth Moss as her destructive punk persona, Becky Something.

Charles Wain

Last Wave / O.S.T. [180 Gram]

ON SALE $40.99 Vinyl: $20.50 Buy

The Last Wave (also known as Black Rain in the US) was the final chapter in a trilogy of films scripted and directed by the leading auteur of the Australian New Wave, Peter Weir. Beginning in 1974 with the absurdist black comedy-horror The Cars That Ate Paris, and followed a year later by the lush gothic mystery Picnic At Hanging Rock, The Last Wave was a landmark in existential horror. Sitting alongside other Australian eco-terror films (e.g. Long Weekend) the film featured a haunting electronic soundtrack that is as mysterious and beguiling as the spiritual themes of the film itself. With no LP issued after the films premiere in 1977, and together with the mystery surrounding the true identity of it's enigmatic composer 'Charles Wain', the score is a largely unheard recording of pioneering experimental film electronics, easily compared to the music that contemporaries Klaus Schulze and Tangerine Dream were composing for Australian films during the same period or the electronic soundtracks of John Carpenter. Tense atonal electronics, synthesizer drones and manipulated Didjeridu all perfectly capture the film's ominous atmosphere, punctuating the slow hypnotic pace of this brooding supernatural thriller. The Last Wave soundtrack is released in conjunction with the lost film music to Nicolas Roeg's 1971 New Wave masterpiece Walkabout composed by John Barry.

The 28 song soundtrack for the indie film No Alternative, coming on April 2. A coming-of-age drama that blasts open the world of grunge-era teenagers in the early '90s. High schooler Thomas Harrison is determined to start his own alternative band after the suicide of Kurt Cobain — it’s an obsession that blinds him to what’s either the mental collapse, or the eruption of musical genius, of his little sister, Bridget. Bridget boldly rejects her brother’s music, and the music of an entire generation of slackers, by taking on the persona of a gangsta’ rapper named ‘Bri Da B.’ The writer and director of the film, William Dickerson, uses his own 1990s high school band "Latterday Saints" and his sister's gangsta' rap persona "Bri D B" for never-before-heard original music to complement the '90s music (Mudhoney, Sebadoh, Lisa Loeb) of the time.

Ben Babbitt

Paris Window (Original Score)

ON SALE $18.99 Vinyl: $12.72 Buy

MP3 Album: $9.99 Download

Director Amanda Kramer's prompts for composer Ben Babbitt's soundtrack to her enigmatic film Paris Window read like magnetic fridge poetry - "warped ambient bumper muzak tension" - but the results skew closer to some hypnagogic contemporary noir: lulling, low-lit, and laced with lingering dread. Electronics, strings, and percussion swoon and seethe in heady mirages of dreams and delirium, romance and menace. The narrative it accompanies is equally opaque and out of time: two eccentric siblings psychologically unravel through divergent fixations, one obsessed with the hypnotic infomercials of a mysterious self-help institute while the other falls in love with an ambiguous doppelganger. Babbitt's background scoring experiential video games (Kentucky Route Zero) and collaborating with exploratory songwriters (Angel Olsen, Weyes Blood, Eartheater) is evident in his versatility and finesse, flowing fluidly between minimal and maximal modes. Like all dynamic film music, the pieces weave a story of their own. Serene synthetic swells decay into murmuring television static and eerie vocal fragments; close-mic'd drones turn acidic then claustrophobic, mirroring sleep paralysis transformed into panic. Babbitt builds a window into a surreal world, seen through shadows and smeared, street-lit glass.

After completing work on his Academy Award-winning 2018 film Roma, director Alfonso CuarĂłn was struck with the notion of having his favorite musical artists create songs inspired by the film. For some, Roma inspired new originals, including Billie Eilish's "When I Was Older," which incorporates various sound elements from the film's dense audio tracks. From shouts of student protests to barkings of Borras to the grinding of knives, artists drew inspiration from the sonic landscape meticulously crafted by Roma, imbuing their compositions with the day-to-day soundtrack of the streets of Mexico City. From hip-hop's El-P to R&B breakout Jessie Reyez and electronic producers Unkle and DJ Shadow, the remainder of the collection is a diverse tapestry that transcends genre, geography and age. From Sonido Gallo Negro and Quique Rangel's Mexico City roots to singer-songwriter Asaf Avidan's native Israel, and with artists belonging to five different generations, Music Inspired by the Film Roma is a contemporary touchstone that further reiterates the film's ability to connect with audiences of all ages across the globe.

2013 double vinyl LP pressing. This compilation features big name after big name, all in tribute to one of the late, great country legend, Eddy Arnold. The maestro recorded his first single in 1945, charted 147 songs-28 of which were number one hits-released over 100 albums, and sold more than 85 million records. Between 1947 and 1948 he outsold the entire pop division at his label, RCA Records, owning the number one song at the top of the country charts for an astounding 60 straight weeks in '68. No other recording artist has lodged Top Ten hits in seven straight decades, and there's been no other steadier or more consistent artist in the modern recording era. It's a wonder that Arnold is largely unknown to contemporary music fans. This important tribute, orchestrated by Arnold's grandson R. Shannon Pollard and produced by Cheetah Chrome, features everyone from Frank Black to Peter Noone (of Herman's Hermits), all with refreshing takes on Arnold's songs. The man is truly one of a kind, and this homage proves it.

Butterfly is the story of 11-year-old Max who identifies as a girl, and wants to live her life as Maxine. Her estranged parents Vicky and Stephen attempt to work out how best to cope with and support this huge life decision. The music to Butterfly sustains Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein's proclivity for locating humanism in their electronics. The signals they send have some sort of uncanny correlation with core feelings. More uncanny is their tonal grasp of what it is to be young and curious.

Pino Donaggio's soundtrack for CORRUZIONE AL PALAZZO DI GIUSTIZIA is a work of many qualities. Donaggio creating romantically laced cues that are played alongside dramatic and taught sounding compositions. This score was written in 1974 before the composer had really established his "sound" but nevertheless the music has great character and contains some interesting orchestrations and arrangements. This is a work that will delight and probably surprise a number of film music fans. It's an odd thing that many collectors of Italian film music often forget or side step the works of Donaggio, maybe this is due to the composers involvement with many horror movies and his use of a number of atonal or action cues, as opposed to melodic or romantic sounding compositions. The Maestro combines traditional Italian sounding motifs and musical passages with his own compositions and arrangements creating a rewarding and at times amusing listen. Composer Pino Donaggio teamed with filmmaker Brian DePalma to forge one of the most memorable collaborations in cinema history, writing a series of suspenseful, hauntingly atmospheric scores evoking Bernard Herrmann's landmark work for Alfred Hitchcock. Born Giuseppe Donaggio in Venice, Italy, on October 24, 1941, he was the product of a family of musicians, and began studying violin at the age of ten.

Vinyl LP pressing. Acclaimed contemporary film composer Clint Mansell returns to score Ben Wheatley's brand new film 'Happy New Year, Colin Burstead'. Mansell's score is a hypnotic and ethereal wash, built around organic instruments including insistent strings with a Celtic flavour and a brilliant use of woodwinds. The score slowly descends into something twisted and dissonant at points, beautifully laying a nod to Wheatley's interest in folk horror. Toward the end, the score features '[exeunt]', a beautiful piano piece reminiscent of Ryuichi Nakamoto's 'Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence'. Clint Mansell is known for his work on Black Mirror: San Junipero, Moon, Pi, Requiem For a Dream, High Rise and many more. Happy New Year, Colin Burstead will make it's debut at the London Film Festival before publicly premiering on BBC2 this December.
