Newly remastered and expanded edition of 'Bright City', the classic solo album by guitarist and vocalist Miller Anderson. Remastered from the original master tapes and featuring an additional six bonus tracks previously unreleased on CD. Includes a session for BBC Radio One's Sounds Of The '70s show recorded in September 1971. With restored original album artwork including an illustrated booklet with new essay. Miller Anderson is a highly respected musician who came to major prominence as vocalist and guitarist with Keef Hartley Band upon their formation in 1968. Signing to Decca's Deram label, the band recorded a series of albums which embraced, jazz, blues and rock influences and enjoyed success as one of the great British bands of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Following the release of the album 'Overdog' in the Spring of 1971, Miller embarked on recording his first solo album, 'Bright City'. The album would see Anderson embrace folk influences alongside the more familiar styles associated with his work as part of the Hartley band. The result was a fine and inspiring record.

Legendary Tacoma, Washington mathcore/hardcore/metal band Botch’s debut full-length American Nervoso was originally recorded in 1998, eventually becoming one of the most ground-breaking records during a pivotal shift in heavy music. Now, the band’s debut album is set to be re-issued on Sargent House 25 years after its original release. The album features white-hot guitar action, scathing vocals, sweet bass moves, and torrential drums, smashing existing precepts of hardcore and redefining both the word and the music for a generation of kids and grizzled vets alike. Bassist Brian Cook, guitarist David Knudson, drummer Tim Latona, and vocalist Dave Verellen formed Botch in 1993, eventually becoming one of the most significant bands of their time before playing their final show on June 15, 2002. The members would go on to play in These Arms Are Snakes, Minus the Bear, and Russian Circles, among others, with acclaim for the band coming mostly post-breakup. Over 20 years since they played their final show, Botch are reuniting for select dates in the Pacific Northwest in February 2023

"During the pandemic, we started a Patreon page. Through the Patreon page, ten people purchased a song we would write for them after having a zoom chat with the band. The stories we heard in those conversations created foundations for the lyrics that evolved into ten different songs. A year or so later we decided to take them into the studio to create a new album. During the studio sessions, we realized we wanted a song to summarize the process and tell the story of the project. One afternoon during the session we came up with the title “10 Stories High” and matched it up with a melody that Pete and Bryan had recorded earlier on their phones. We really liked how the title added imagery of ten people in a ten-story building living out their own external and internal experiences. It was a perfect summary to the project. After a few hours of tinkering with the music and words we had our title track for the record."

Limited blue colored vinyl LP pressing housed in gatefold jacket. Includes bonus 7" single. An exquisite pairing of talent, the duo of Carla Olson and Gene Clark. The feeling of spontaneity and closeness of spirit engulfs all of the cuts here. Olson's strident and powerful vocals mesh beautifully with Clark's slightly world-weary, soulful performances. As for the material, both songwriters obviously put their best foot forward here. Olson's The Drifter and Are We Still Making Love are excellent country-folk outings. Clark contributes one of his finest later compositions, Gypsy Rider, a multi-leveled song that can easily be viewed as autobiographical. Chemistry is the operative word here. The only sad thing is that So Rebellious a Lover was to be the only studio effort by the duo before Clark passed away in 1991. This record is important not only for what it is, but for what it could have become.

Dear Reader, About a year or two ago, Naomi Yang (of Galaxie 500) reached out to me after she rediscovered a video that we had made together in 2011, during the making of Tramp, just before the album’s release. It was for the song Serpents. The timing was uncanny, approaching the anniversary of Tramp. Thinking about my time in New York while in the bubble of Los Angeles and my home. Thinking about how restless I was, and now settled down and stable. Thinking about how Aaron Dessner took a chance on me after I messaged him with a fury of demos. He could see through the hiss and crappy vocals on my GarageBand demos, and that I had something to say. He gave me the confidence to be loud and to scream my rage and feel founded and justified in my own pain. He gave me more tools to find catharsis in my work. I have carried that with me ever since.

Being on the west coast the last two years, I look back on my community in New York and am forever grateful. I had so many friends and peers step up and help me unfold these demos. The album that it became. Doug Keith and Ben Lord from my original touring band, Logan Cole, Peter Silberman from The Antlers, Jessica Larrabee from She Keeps Bees, Thomas Bartlett of Doveman, Rob Moose of yMusic, Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak, Julianna Barwick, Zach Condon of Beirut, Matt Barrick (of the Walkmen), Clarice Jensen, Ben Lanz, Bryce Dessner, and Bryan Devendorf (of The National).

I had almost forgotten about a song titled "This Is Too Right" that didn’t make it onto the record. It was one of the first guitar “riffs” I had ever written and Jenn Wasner sang on it with me. A song about not believing how good I had it, like the other shoe was about to drop. I hope everyone that helped make this record and supported it, feel the love and admiration that I continue to hold for all of you. I hope that in sharing this record again, with a new video and this forgotten track, that new listeners are brought into this album and find meaning and relevance in it today. All of the musicians on this album helped me come to life and perform in ways I never had before.

May these songs find you well. Sending all my love, Sharon.

Andrew Gabbard has announced the release of his sophomore effort as a solo artist, Cedar City Sweetheart. The songs evoke a familiar feel for fans of his debut album, but new instrumentation and country-leaning lyrics give us a glimpse of another side of Andrew. "I love when a rock band makes a country album, " he explained, pointing to The Byrds as a major source of inspiration. Andrew played every instrument on his solo debut, Homemade. This time around, he called on some local musicians to add color. "Originally, I didn't have access to much recording equipment. I tracked my parts with an iPhone. My friends recorded their parts professionally, so I was able to piece it together and take another stab at recording the core of each song." The final product is a better sounding, polished group of songs that fit together to make a country album. The songs were written over the course of several years, but they're all very fresh in Andrew's mind. "I can remember a specific moment from writing each one of these tunes. They're simple songs that came naturally to me." Even though Andrew has written and contributed on countless albums over the years, this one truly feels like his second. The album is set to release March 24, 2023 on Colemine/Karma Chief Records.

Two CD set. After fronting popular Jamaican vocal trio the Paragons on a succession of best-selling rock steady singles during the late Sixties, John Holt went on to become one of Jamaica's most popular solo performers, scoring a series of reggae hits for many of the island's leading record producers. His international breakthrough came in 1974 with the hugely popular '1000 Volts of Holt' album, which fused raw reggae rhythms with sophisticated orchestral arrangements. The highlight of the long-player was a reworking of Kris Kristoffersson's country hit, 'Help Me Make It Through The Night', which the following year became a global hit, with the single, peaking at Number 6 in the UK charts. Over the years that followed, Holt remained a giant of the reggae scene with further best sellers and numerous sell-out shows around the world. The very best of his solo work has been brought together on this 'Essential Artist' compilation, the latest release in Trojan Records' newly launched range that showcases the work of Jamaica's best-loved 'foundation' artists. This collection superbly illustrates the talent that made John Holt one of the reggae music's most popular and enduring singers.

With 'Alphaville', the enigmatic New York City Extreme Metal trio has successfully broken with all genre conventions and elevated into a realm of Avantgarde Metal that is as fascinating as it is scary. Not that conventions ever held back Imperial Triumphant, but this album is certainly their most obscure and experimental yet. The good news is that it's not at the cost of intensity. Nonesuch Records releases Cécile McLorin Salvant’sMélusine on CD March 24, 2023 and LP on May 19, 2023. Mélusine features a mix of five originals and interpretations of nine songs, dating as far back as the twelfth century, mostly sung in French along with Occitan, English, and Haitian Kreyol.

The new album’s songs tell the story of the European folkloric legend of Mélusine, a woman who turns into a half-snake each Saturday as a result of a childhood curse by her mother. Mélusine later agrees to marry Raymondin on the condition that he never see her on Saturdays. He agrees but is ultimately convinced by his brother to break his promise, piercing his wife’s door with his sword and finding her naked in the bath, half snake, half woman. When she catches him spying on her, she turns into a dragon and flies out the window, only to reappear every time one of her descendants is on their deathbed.

Salvant, whose parents are French and Haitian, saysMélusine is also “partly about that feeling of being a hybrid, a mixture of different cultures, which I’ve experienced not only as the American-born child of two first generation immigrants, but as someone raised in a family that is racially mixed, from several different countries, with different languages spoken in the home.”

Acclaimed by George Clinton as "the most phenomenal musician on the planet," Dayton, Ohio-bred multi-instrumentalist Walter "Junie" Morrison was the visionary musical director of Parliament-Funkadelic throughout a hot streak of gold and platinum albums during the late 70s. Junie co-fronted and powered funk classics like "One Nation Under a Groove" and "(Not Just) Knee Deep" with his madcap synthesizer manipulation. Earlier in the decade, he provided a similar boost to the Ohio Players. Junie also recorded as a solo artist. 1984's techno funk extravaganza Evacuate Your Seats was written and recorded entirely by the musician himself. He seems energized by new possibilities in the combination of programming and sampling with live instrumentation, and he doesn't curtail his inclination for animated vocals. Cited as an influence on the burgeoning Detroit Techno scene, Evacuate Your Seats has been remastered and expanded with 35 minutes of essential bonus remixes for it's worldwide CD debut.

GRAMMY Award-winning trio, Nickel Creek—mandolinist Chris Thile, violinist Sara Watkins and guitarist Sean Watkins—will release Celebrants, their first new album in nine years, March 24 via Thirty Tigers. Along with the album announcement comes the song, “Strangers” - Watch the band perform the song on YouTube. Of the song, Thile shares, “This song is an exploration of the ostensibly rewarding but often awkward, even excruciating act of catching up with an old friend. Can the connection be reforged? Should it be?”

Their fifth studio album, Celebrants marks a highly anticipated return for the beloved trio and explores the inherent dynamics of human connection. Across the 18 tracks, the trio addresses love, friendship and time with lyrics both poetic and plain-spoken, as they see bridges built, crossed, burned and rebuilt. Recorded at Nashville’s RCA Studio A, the album was produced by longtime collaborator Eric Valentine (Queens of the Stone Age, Grace Potter, Weezer) and features Mike Elizondo on bass.

Of the project, the band reflects, “This is a record about embracing the friction inherent in real human connection. We begin the record yearning for and pursuing harmonious connection. We end the record having realized that truly harmonious connection can only be achieved through the dissonance that we’ve spent our entire adult lives trying to avoid.”

In celebration of the release, the band will perform three very special sold-out shows at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium this spring on April 27, 28 and 29.

Together a sum of more than their staggering parts, Nickel Creek revolutionized bluegrass and folk in the early 2000s and ushered in a new era of what we now recognize as Americana music. In a 2020 retrospective entitled, “The Year Folk Broke: How Nickel Creek Made Americana The New Indie Rock,” NPR Music praised, “20 years ago this month, an album arrived that seemed to speak all these languages at once: unafraid to push the boundaries of its primary genre, and packing the musical chops to bring such an eclectic vision to life. Behind it were three musicians just barely old enough to vote” and continued, “That makes Nickel Creek and its unofficial debut a critical point along a storied timeline, one whose innovations offer countless connections between the genre’s origins and its future. Once dubbed ‘progressive newgrassers,’ the three musicians now fit firmly within the ranks of Americana music—however nebulous, layered and diverse that realm may be. They have only themselves to thank.”

After meeting as young children and subsequently earning the respect of the bluegrass circuit for a decade, the trio signed with venerable label, Sugar Hill Records, in 2000 and quickly broke through with their Grammy-nominated, Alison Krauss-produced self-titled LP. Since that effort, the trio has released three more studio albums to date: 2002’s This Side, which won Best Contemporary Folk Album at the 45th Grammy Awards, 2005’s Why Should the Fire Die? and 2014’s A Dotted Line.
Each member of Nickel Creek has also taken part in many outside projects over the years. Thile is a 2012 recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship and served as the host of the American radio variety show Live from Here (formerly A Prairie Home Companion) from 2016 to 2020. He has also released collaborative albums with world-renowned musicians like Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer, Brad Mehldau and Stuart Duncan as well as six studio albums with his Grammy-winning band, Punch Brothers. Sean Watkins is a co-founder of Watkins Family Hour alongside Sara, who has released three albums and maintains a long-running collaborative show in Los Angeles. Sean has also released a string of solo albums, while Sara’s extracurricular projects include the aforementioned Watkins Family Hour, as well as the Grammy-winning roots trio, I’m With Her, which she co-founded alongside Aoife O’Donovan and Sarah Jarosz. Sara has released four studio albums and has contributed fiddle to recordings by artists like Phoebe Bridgers, the Killers and John Mayer.

2023 release. OV Sulfur is the sound of a musical left-hand path that is nothing short of sonically jarring, lyrically blasphemous and utterly epic in it's delivery. The Las Vegas band's Century Media debut, The Burden Ov Faith is blackened deathcore that challenges the genre's conventions, while inviting comparisons to Dimmu Borgir or Behemoth in their prime, with an ominous sense of melody dotting their dark musical landscapes. At the center of it, ex-Suffokate vocalist Ricky Hoover reemerges as a force to contend with, condemning the trappings of conservative religiosity on tracks like the album's volcanic opener, 'Stained in Rot' or the unforgettable 'Death Ov Circumstance'. Produced by Morgoth Beatz (Winds of Plague, Polyphia) and mixed by Josh Schroeder (Lorna Shore, Mental Cruelty) with co-conspirators including Slaughter To Prevail vocalist Alex Terrible, ex-Killswitch Engage/Light The Torch frontman, Howard Jones amongst others lending their voices to the unholy choir, this is a plunge into darkness as unrelenting as it is unforgettable.

Pretty Boy Floyd were one of the last true glam bands to receive any kind of notoriety in the late 80's. These guys really had some terrific songs, and dropped a really strong debut album as well. The titled track "Leather Boyz With Electric Toyz" features roaring guitars, smashing drums, thundering bass, and Steve Summer's signature singing style give this song amazing energy, and intensity that still can't be matched. Songs like "Rock N' Roll," "48 Hours," "Toast Of The Town" (Motley Crue cover version) and "Rock N' Roll Outlaws" are all favorites. While Pretty Boy Floyd's debut was far from groundbreaking, it still stands as a great rock and roll record.

The time is now for Caroline Rose. Their last record, Superstar, was released on March 6, 2020. The record was critically acclaimed and positioned Rose as the next big breakthrough in music. Needless to say, the resulting pandemic grinded all momentum to a halt while at the same time throwing Rose’s personal life into turmoil. The result of that turmoil is the fuel that fired the creation of their latest album, The Art of Forgetting. With The Art of Forgetting, Rose took on the dual role of writer and producer. The album encapsulates the feeling of experiencing recent memories, having them turn into old ones and then ultimately forgetting those memories altogether. There is a romantic nature within the sonic landscape of this record. Tape effects and loops emulate the feeling of aging while the juxtaposition of modern acoustic-electronic textures, like lo-fi tape next to hi-fi granular synths result in some of their most mature and honest work to date.

2023 release. British Heavy Metal legends, Saxon, return with a second 'deep dish' serving of the inspirations which have fed their immensely successful 40+ year career. Whether unveiling a sensational take on The Sensational Alex Harvey Band's "The Faith Healer", getting feral with The Animal's "We've Gotta Get Out Of This Place", letting loose a high-octane take on Alice Cooper's "From The Inside", or laying down a ferocious tribute to KISS' "Detroit Rock City", More Inspirations is a joyous trip into the sounds which galvanized the Barnsley boys and continue to get spun on home stereos and tour buses. Produced by vocalist/co-founder Biff Byford, with Seb Byford helping record the music alongside mixing engineer Jacky Lehmann, More Inspirations also includes enthusiastic takes on Alice Cooper, Rainbow, ZZ Top and Cream, as well as a thunderous "Razamanaz" by Nazareth, a tasty take on The Who's "Substitute", and a thick groove take on Uriah Heep's "Gypsy".
