Jazz and blues pianist/vocalist/composer Mose Allison has been described as "one of the finest songwriters of 20th century blues." This 1978 live recording features Allison playing his usual repertoire, in a trio with bassist Tom Rutley (bass) and drummer Jerry Granelli (drums). Since Allison only recorded one album during the years 1973 to 1981, this well-recorded live set is quite valuable.

Most of the material is fairly familiar, but the singer's spirited delivery and interplay with the audience make this recording rare. It ain't about technology, it's about these transcendent versions of Allison classics performed with sidemen who get it, for people who dig it -- the real deal. Highlights include "Wildman on the Loose," "Swinging Machine," "I Live the Life I Love," "I Ain't Got Nothin' But the Blues" and "Your Mind Is on Vacation." Legendary blues singer/songwriter/guitarist Big Bill Broonzy was a force in music from the 1920s until his passing in 1958. He was one of the first American blues artists to play Europe, and this fine recording shows how he influenced a generation of guitar players including Eric Clapton, John Lennon, Jerry Garcia and Bert Jansch.

Live in 1953 was recorded in Amsterdam, Netherlands and features ten tracks by this inaugural member of the Blues Hall of Fame. The set makes its vinyl debut for RSD Black Friday.

The sequel to the legendary Season Of Da Siccness will be released late 2022 and to celebrate, Brotha Lynch Hung is releasing a very limited blood splattered vinyl edition of his classic second album Season Of Da Siccness for RSD Black Friday.

While his debut felt like the work a lone visionary, Season of Da Siccness heralds a movement. Lynch is backed by several of his Sacramento cronies, and his burgeoning posse was rewarded when the album reached #13 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart. Whereas 24 Deep relied heavily on vintage samples, Season of Da Siccness focuses on a self-made vision of funk. “Sicc-Made,” “Rest in P**s” and “Liquor Sicc” embody a slow-moving concoction of hissing synths, groaning bass, and shards of piano. The sound design is a total representation of Lynch’s themes: nausea, psychosis, and claustrophobia. In turn, the imagery has become even more grotesque. Though Lynch’s songs grow out of everyday tales of ghetto living, his narratives are infested with disturbing, almost surrealistic imagery: baby spines, floating entrails, and caskets full of purple marijuana smoke. Lynch’s art is so image-oriented that he functions more like a painter than a songwriter. The highlight might be “Welcome 2 Your Own Death,” which creeps along on top of a growling subterranean bass tone worthy of John Carpenter.

"Reunion was the first time that Paquito D'Rivera and trumpeter Arturo Sandoval recorded together since D'Rivera's defection in 1980; Sandoval had recently left Cuba himself. The co-leaders are joined by a superb band: pianist Danilo Perez, acoustic guitarist Fareed Haque, bassist David Finck, drummer Mark Walker, and Giovanni Hidalgo on conga. The group mostly performs originals plus a couple Chucho Valdes songs, "Body and Soul" (a showcase for Sandoval) and Dizzy Gillespie's "Tanga." They are rap’s first great duo, one that excelled as rappers and producers. Touring in support of their fifth studio album, Airborne, The Flying Burrito Brothers performed at the legendary New York City venue, The Bottom Line on August 18, 1976. This 12-track set features many of their classic songs alongside a few C&W standards. The group's lineup consisted of Skip Battin and Gene Parsons (both ex-Byrds band members), along with Gib Guilbeau, Joel Scott Hill and original Burrito, pedal steel legend, "Sneaky" Pete Kleinow. This live recording is previously unreleased.

"1976 was a great year for re-iteration of the Flying Burrito Brothers having the opportunity to travel throughout the USA celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the founding of the United States. Though Gram Parsons wasn't around anymore, Chris Hillman embarked on a solo career, and Chris Ethridge had just departed this band, we had some great guys that just happened to be real familiar with the 'Burrito' mentality. It all came together quite spectacularly! To begin, Gib Guilbeau was my life-long pal and Cajun guy par excellence. Gene Parsons, formerly of the Byrds, was he drummer from hell who lifted the excitement to the limit (and picked a great banjo and string bender guitar. What can I say about Joel Scott Hill? A rebel? The Four Tops’ Second Album, originally released in 1965, reached #3 on the Billboard R&B Albums chart and #20 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart. Released in 1974, Aqua is the first solo album by Tangerine Dream's frontman Edgar Froese. It is known as his most influential release as his entire advance was invested in the acquisition and development of the then-unknown sequencers and modular synthesisers. “Aqua is a work of creation that has opened many doors to the sound exploration and to the parameters in a fusion between abstract and harmony". This release has been out of print on vinyl until now. Available for the first time on vinyl, the Grateful Dead opened their fames Europe ’72 tour at the sold-out, cavernous Wembley Empire Pool in London. Including performances of their best-known songs, a healthy dose of music from the Skull & Roses album, and more than a half dozen songs from Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir’s respective 1972 solo albums.  

First time on LP! Originally recorded in 1995 for Zoo Records, but the tapes were lost when Zoo Records went out of business and it wasn’t released until 2009 when the CD came out. Remastered by Jack Shirley.

This RSD Black Friday release brings together four studio demo sessions from The Heartbreakers (Johnny Thunders, Walter Lure, Billy Rath & Jerry Nolan) from 1976 and 1977, compiled onto one album for the first time.

Two sessions were recorded in 1976 in New York, including four tracks in their early incarnation with Richard Hell, and later six tracks after Billy Rath had joined on bass. In London in 1977, they recorded one session just prior to signing with Track Records, and another after L.A.M.F. had been released, with The Clash’s Terry Chimes on drums replacing the newly departed Jerry Nolan.

Pressed on transparent magenta vinyl, this release comes with a 12” poster of the Roberta Bayley cover photo, an outtake from the L.A.M.F. cover session, and an inner bag with Walter Lure interviewed by Johnny Thunders’ biographer Nina Antonia in 2005. The album shows the development of the band building towards their classic 1977 ‘L.A.M.F.’ album (recently reissued with a newly found original master), and further points to the direction they would have gone had they not split up.

Burning Desire is part of Dagger Records’ authorized Jimi Hendrix ‘bootleg’ releases.  Mixed by Eddie Kramer, the collection presents compelling examples of Jimi’s remarkable creative explorations through 1969 and early 1970.  In the shadow of Electric Ladyland, the original Jimi Hendrix Experience struggled to remain a cohesive unit and Jimi’s ceaseless creative pursuit would lead to experimental sessions with bassist Billy Cox and drummer Buddy Miles and ambitious attempts to integrate fresh musical elements.  On these studio recordings, Jimi can be heard developing exciting new material such as “Ezy Ryder,” “Cherokee Mist,” “Villanova Junction Blues,” “Izabella,” and “Burning Desire.”  Burning Desire was originally released on CD via mail order only, seeing it’s only LP release on black vinyl as part of a previous RSD Black Friday event. The double LP will now be available for the first time since, pressed on Translucent Orange and Red vinyl by QRP as part of the new RSD Encores series revisiting popular releases from past Record Store Day and RSD Black Friday releases.

The sixth album from Hot Tuna (Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casady and Bob Steeler) would become one of the hardest rocking album ever in the power trio’s large catalog of blues/rock projects over the last five decades. Shortly after Jay Dee’s younger brother Illa J’s solo debut, Yancey Boys, was issued on Delicious Vinyl, the label and the artist knew the next step in honoring Jay Dee’s legacy was to issue the complete instrumentals from Yancey Boys as a stand-alone release.

This mother lode of (at the time) previously untouched beats dates as far back as Jay Dee’s time working on the Pharcyde’s sophomore album “Labcabincalifornia” (1995). As Delicious Vinyl owner Michael Ross explains, “From ‘95 through ‘98 Jay Dee was my go-to guy for hot beats and remixes. He was always making beats, always. So there was a select amount of tracks that he composed for me during that time, tracks as good as anything he’d done, only they never got used.” Once these beats were used for Illa J’s Yancey Boys they were presented to the public on Yancey Boys Instrumentals.

After Austin-based Scratch Acid disbanded, caterwauling vocalist David Yow and bassist David Wm. Sims moved to Chicago, where they formed The Jesus Lizard and proceed to make a glorious racket throughout the ‘90s and beyond. Shot was their first major label release (for Capitol in 1996) and their first one without famed underground producer Steve Albini, but GGGarth (Melvins, L7) ably filled Albini’s large shoes behind the board, cleaning up the sound a bit while losing none of The Jesus Lizard’s grungy, menacing mania (check out “Thumbscrews” and “Skull of a German”). For its first time on vinyl, we’re releasing Shot with a printed inner sleeve featuring lyrics and a fire orange with black streaks pressing limited to 2500 units worldwide!

The legendary 1964 rehearsal collaboration receives its first official issue. Despite being one of Memphis’s most long-running, prolific and popular gospel groups, The Jubilee Hummingbirds’ story remains largely unwritten. Early members O.V. Wright and James Carr — both of whom crossed over into secular music while singing with The Jubilee Hummingbirds — have guaranteed their mention in soul circles, but for a group with such a presence in their home city, and a generous multi-label discography that began on wax in the mid-‘60s and continues to this day, the Hummingbirds are a living, breathing example of the ever-present yet invisible place that gospel music, by its very design, can occupy.

Their 1983 LP, Gospel Express, was just one chapter in the rich history of The Jubilee Hummingbirds, but a significant one that deserves a deep focus. They were a little over halfway through their eighty-four-years-and-counting history when these recordings were made and they’re still singing today, now under the leadership of William "Redd" Watson. In 1983, shortly after Watson joined the group the ‘Birds landed on Bishop Bobby King’s Gospel Express imprint. The vinyl-hustling enigma behind such street-level setups as Hub-City and Home-Boys, King was a ghetto gospel impresario who went by so many different names that much of his activity is still a mystery. King’s calling card was the cut-and-paste album cover, which was almost ahead of its time in its crudely-collaged aesthetic. Gospel Express is being given a second lease on life in this RSD Black Friday edition.

JORMA - Guitarist for Hot Tuna and Jefferson Airplane, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee, Grammy Award Winner one of Rolling Stone Magazine’s Top All Time Greatest Guitarists. Too Many Years is a Jorma Kaukonen studio album released in August 1998, his last on Relix Records. Michael Falzarano returned to play guitar and help produce (as he did on the previous Kaukonen solo album). He also sang lead on several tracks. The keyboard work was handled by former Jefferson Starship keyboardist Pete Sears, who had been playing with Hot Tuna since 1992. This deluxe package includes an OBI strip, Gatefold album jacket with two pockets, two printed inner sleeves (unique for this release), new record labels and two discs: one blue/black and one brown/black smoke vinyl.

For a certain generation of hip-hop fans, just the mention of Kid ‘n’ Play brings on a wave of nostalgia. The group released three full length albums between 1988 and 1991 with a focus on positive lyrics and pop-friendly production. The success of the group’s music led to countless House Party films (well, some have counted), a Saturday morning cartoon show and even a series of comic books for Marvel (so yes, technically speaking, Kid ‘n’ Play are part of the Marvel Universe).

It all started here on 1988’s 2 Hype which features “Do The Kid 'n Play Kick Step” (the musical accompaniment to their trademark dance), “Rollin With Kid ‘n Play” which hit #11 on the Billboard R&B Singles chart and of course Kid's now classic hi-top fade haircut, which measured up to over six inches high at its peak. Producer Hurby “Luv Bug” Azor, instrumental in the success of Salt-N-Pepa, was certainly a factor and the full length went on to Billboard Top 200 and RIAA certified gold status.
