Dearborn Music

Reportedly Dinah Washington's favourite singer, and an influence on vocal stylists like Billy Wright and Joe Williams, Annie Laurie was one of the outstanding R&B/Jump Blues singers of the immediate post-WWII?era. She recorded prolifically in the late 40s and early 50s, for six different labels, enjoying both R&B and crossover Pop success, before suddenly retiring from singing in 1962, to devote her life to the Jehovah's Witnesses. Her biggest success - and her signature song - was 'Since I Fell For You', in 1947, following which she also registered with 'Cuttin' Out', 'I'll Never Be Free', 'It Hurts To Be In Love' and 'If You're Lonely'. She also enjoyed regional success on the Cashbox New Orleans "Hot" Chart with releases like 'Annie's Blues', 'I?Ain't Gonna Let You' and 'My Rough? And Ready?Man'. This compilation presents the very best of her recordings between 1947-62 and is a must-have for collectors as it includes sides which have never previously appeared on CD, notably her very first release, 'St. Louis Blues'
