Nancy Lee Combs' music was simply a form of personal expression and enjoyment until she wrote a new Christmas carol for the Sunday school Christmas pageant five years ago. The carol, "Enter the Stable," was an instant hit with the children and the audience, but Nancy was reluctant to take credit for it. "The music and words came from somewhere else, and it all rhymed, it all fit," she says. "I just listened and wrote it down." Some 20 copyrighted pieces later, she decided it was time to do something else with the songs she believes are a gift from God, to be shared. Soon she had 11 songs and hymns which she professionally recorded with full instrumentation by one of Detroit's top folk rock bands, Grievous Angel. She plays her own piano, dulcimer and some guitar. The result is the new CD, I Will Walk With You: Original Songs about God and the Human Heart. All profits go to the Open Door program at Fort Street Presbyterian Church, serving Detroit's poor and homeless since 1967.
